Higher Nitec classes,On behalf of the National Education Committee, would like to inform youabout a slogan competition for the theme - Global Awareness.

The main thread of the message is to develop a global mindset that is more adaptable and open to changes while accepting diversity. Through these initiatives, our students are given exposure to the different cultures, practices and lifestyles as well as values of other nations.
The aim is toenable them to bridge the gap and cooperate for mutual benefit, to lay thegroundwork for future networking. They need to learn to impact lives andput others first. The act of giving and the spirit of volunteerism are desirable outcomes.
The 4 categories are Student Exchange, Industrial Attachment, Community Service and Cultural and Sports programmes. Some sample slogans are Dare to Dream, Walk the Talk, Serve by Doing, NeverSay Die, Can Do, Celebrating Differences.
There are cash prizes to be won but the actual amount is to be confirmed.Looking forward to at least 1 entry per class.

Good News! Two (1 from KF and 1 from our class) were selected for Hondascholarship interview out of 10 nominations from Year 2 BIT.

For all ofyou, we still have 1 year to put you to other awards/scholarships. Try tokeep flying high. Your results last term was really excellent. Keep it up!

Hidayah was given chance to be interviewed for the Honda scholarshipprogram. Zhi Peng did not make the cut because of his GPA though he hasexcellent CCA and CIP (WorldSkills).

Good luck Hidayah. Your interview schedule is on Friday, 5 May 2006 at ITECollege West (Balestier Campus), 11:00 AM. Please be there atleast 15 minsearlier.
As of now I have no idea what kind of questions to be asked.
However, tryto think carefully if they are asked as follows (these are my questions ifI were appointed as the interviewer):
- Why do you deserve the Honda ICVS scholarship?
- What kind of contributions will you make to Honda ICVS during yourattachment there?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
How did you overcome yourweaknesses?
- What will challenge you?

Please note that the allocated time for interview is only 10 mins. Thus, Idon't think the interviewers will ask in-depth questions -- no time to doso.
FYI, previous BIT students who won this scholarship were attached toHonda's car rental division.

Hi Guys & Gals,

IBM and the Clementi CC is conducting a training to help our seniorcitizens learned how to surf the net, use the computer etc..

This is one of the major projects of ITE so you will have betterrecognition and credits in terms of CIP and nominations for awards (likeeagles, CIP/CCA awards, LKY etc..).

I had a student whose GPA was 2.79 andhe was able to book his place in the course Mobile computing in Ngee AnnPoly. He was able to get in because of his active participation in CCA andCIP.

I'm encouraging all of you, especially the top students (i think many ofyou had improved a lot this term) of the class to take this task.Most often times, itâ€™s not the CIP/CCA marks that counts but the goodhearts of yours to help our senior citizens learn something new.

In 40 or50 years from now, you will be delighted to see a 16/17 year old teachingyou with the new technology as what you have done today.You wonâ€™t be teaching the senior citizens. They have a lecturer. You just assist (ex, help them click, direct them to the right screen etc..)

1 Clementi Campus is embarking on a cross-level elective module withTemasek Polytechnic. The cross-level elective is "Basics of Entrepreneurship".

2 The following students from your class have been identified to takepart in the pilot run. There are only 32 places available (16 for ADN and 16 for BIT). Because ofthat, only students having Cumulative GPA of 4.000 were selected for this pilot run.(Embedded image moved to file: pic17908.jpg)

3 The lecture will be conducted at Temasek Polytechnic on Wed, 19 Apr2006. It will be a full-day session (our students will be joining TP's BIT students). Followingup this module, there will be assignments given (will need to be submitted during the term timefrom May 2006 onwards). Upon completion, students will be given certificate and granted 1 CreditUnit (transferable, if the students progress to Temasek Polytechnic later on).

Diana Teo [SH/SS/CW(CT)]is also working on the approval to get the module reflected in the ITE Statement of Results(SOR)/Transcript.

More detailed information and/or briefing (within the next few days) will beconducted by Diana Teo. Since all Year 1 BIT students take Entrepreneurship elective modulein this semester (505X); there should not be any problem completing the assignments given -- shouldbe a breeze to them.

1. Adobe Photoshop Training scheduled from 9 Dec - 23 Dec will be cancelled.

2. 9 Dec (Fri) : Assessment for Microsoft Access. Pls ask your students toturn up at 2.30pm at ITE Balestier to take the qualifying test forMicrosoft Access. All other students from the rest of the west network willalso take this test to determine which final six will represent ITE WestNetwork in the Software/IT Appln category.

3. 16 Dec (Fri) : Assessment for Microsoft Excel. Same time 2.30pm atBalestier.As Microsoft Access and Excel will be more difficult, thus the assessmentis made based on these two areas.Outcome of the selection will be made known by 23 Dec (Fri). The 2004 Grand Prize winners photo of 2 dogs can now be seen in carwindows all over Singapore, having been made into a car window decal. And the runners-up entrants have been exhibited at various places over the lastyear, including the recent World Animal Day celebrations at Parco BugisJunction.

Entries will be judged by noted fashion photographer Wee Khim and winnersannounced by end-January 2006. Closing date for entries is 23 December,2005.Entry fees for the competition go toward SPCA's animal welfare services.
